We Are Steppers. Back

There is a growing awareness of how the dance community serves a much greater purpose than party and entertainment. As a member of Milwaukee Steppers and Ballroomers United (MSBU), I have had the opportunity to see, realize, and experience much throughout the years. We're celebrating our 10 year anniversary in October with special honors to past and current members. The family and friendship bonds that have been created over the year are often stronger than kinship. We see each other through our best and worst of life changes.
As steppers, we all challenge ourselves to confront, eliminate and forgive each other. Sometimes as short as a day's time; sometimes over a period of years. Many of us have someone or some people within the dance community we can lean on. Not because we can't figure out a combinationor we need a workshop in our town, but because we need someone to listen, talk to or paint the town red with to relieve stress. Most notable, we give back to our communities through charity, volunteering, and benefit events.
Amazingly, our reach crosses state lines and we often form friendship and fondness for people we only see online. Often inviting people to our town and welcoming them into our homes. We talk and confide in each other about our personal lives. We reach back in time to those in which we once shared bonds without worry of disregard or judgment. We allow others to see our frustrations and concerns; often asking for advice and opinions. We allow others into our physical space; sharing intimate and playful dances.
We are steppers and that means something. It means that we have an unconditional national bond that leads us to personal growth, forgiveness, love, and something to pass on to future generations.
